There is a lot happening in Sydney right now: - the Park Hyatt soon to be re-opened, a new five-star, The Darling opening Friday - but for today we're celebrating the new Terrace Suites at Sheraton on the Park. The "opening of these suites marks the culmination of a $40 million renovation at Sheraton on the Park." says Mr Sean Hunt, Regional Vice President for Starwood Pacific Hotels and Managing Director of Sheraton on the Park. Covering up to 120 square metres, they are designed with loft apartments in mind. Views are of the Sydney skyline and nearby Hyde Park. The colour scheme is what we like to call 'Barista browns' - cafe colours like warm mocha carpets and deep chocolate and biscuit for the leather lounges, with a little lightness in the silvery-green walls. Those with a sweet tooth are rejoicing that the new Pudding Parlour at London's athenaeum hotel is now open. The Luxury Travel Bible attended the opening (to coincide with British Baking Week) and tested the delectable delights on offer.

Each month the menu will feature a ʻPudding Of The Monthʼ by Great British Bake Off winner Edd Kimber. 'The Boy Who Bakes' was on hand at the opening to demonstrate how he made October's featured pudding, the delicious 'Plum Almondine'. The lovely Edd revealed some of the upcoming featured puddings and TLTB particularly likes the sound of December's Traditional Home Made Mince Pies (a Kimber family recipe).

The menu will also feature puddings ranging from Macaroons to chocolate truffles to Champagne jellies by the hotel's head pastry chef Marion.

So, forget cocktails bars and head to the pudding parlour instead for a post-theatre or late night treat.

The Pudding Parlour at the athenaeum will be open Monday - Friday from 8.00pm -11.00pm and Saturday from 9.00pm - 11.00pm.£10 per visit, £15 including a glass of Pudding Wine. SB

We're loving this quote from a Richard Branson employee's kid during the Big R's trip to Christchurch New Zealand (20 October). Branson was in town to cheer up his troops, help the earthquake-beleagurered city - oh and go on to see the final of the Rugby World Cup in Auckland on Sunday.

''The most gruelling thing was the staff's kids questions,'' Branson told press. ''They were budding journalists in there.'' Yes, such as Daniel Trenberth, 11, whose father Dave is a Pacific Blue training manager, who asked Branson if he was entitled to staff travel on Virgin Galactic.

Deep down, The Luxury Travel Bible thinks everyone wants to be a cowboy (or at least spend some time with one).

But there is no need to venture too far into the Wild, Wild West as The Ranch at Rock Creek, Montana is offering a more luxurious cowboy adventure.

On Saturday The Luxury Travel Bible attended a BBQ Masterclass at The Terrace at Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel in Belgravia to learn more about the menu. Executive Chef Martin Gabler demonstrated making each of the dishes from the menu. The Luxury Travel Bible even had a go at making the signature Beef Burgers... we now know the ingredients to the burgers but we won't reveal the secret - you will just have to try them for yourself.

The sun was shining, the Pimms was suitable chilled, the atmosphere on the Terrace was sociable and most importantly the mouthwatering food was plentiful. The only way to end the meal was with one of the most delicious Chocolate Fondants TLTB has ever tasted.

The beauty of the menu is down to excellent quality ingredients. A visit to The Terrace is worth it just to try the delicious prawns and the tender chicken kebabs ... oh and the juicy steaks... and the burgers. .. oh and the Lamb Koftas....

Children will love the athenaeum's new pop-up playroom for the British school summer holidays. Created by Disney, the first time the company has worked with a UK hotel to create a 'Disney experience', the playroom is packed with toys, Lego Duplo, crafts and games all featuring Pooh and his friends. The room also houses giant Winnie the Pooh characters and a one hundred-acre wood style table and chairs. Every weekend the kids' concierge will host a honey-flavoured 'High-Tea' made using Regent's Park bees' honey (or should that be 'hunny' as Pooh would say) in the Playroom for children and their parents.
The hotel's nannies can be booked to watch the children in the playroom if the parents wish to sneak off to enjoy the spa, afternoon tea or the attractions of London for a couple of hours.

A new sleek new hotel

The new Hotel Lone, the first Design Hotels member in Croatia, opened yesterday in the Mediterranean town of Rovinj, in the exclusive Monte Mulini neighbourhood. The 248-room hotel has been built to resemble a white ocean liner floating along the hillside. As you would expect with a Design Hotels member, Hotel Lone is design-focused with minimalist curves, designed by Croatian architect Silvije Novak of 3LHD. The hotel's 'Y-Shaped' design has been created to give each of the room either sea or park views. The interior design shows respect for the environment with the integration of the location into the hotel through the use of large glass walls and mirrors.

A day spa with 16 private rooms and a hamman will be the luxurious centre piece of the first new five star hotel built in Sydney since the city hosted the Olympics. There is a new boutique luxury hotel ear marked for Lima, which is good news since Lima is not a city known for its boutique offerings. Andean Experience is restoring a mansion in the bohemian coastal district of Barranco in the Peruvian capital to be opened in 2012. The aptly named Hotel Barranco will feature 18 suites, a private Spa and a signature restaurant by Rafael Osterling, one of Peru's internationally recognised chefs. The 1914 Belle Epoque mansion was a former summer residence for the politically powerful Bedoya family during the Leguia Presidency. It is built in the style of style of French architect Jean Claude Sahut, who designed many important buildings in Lima such as the Presidential Palace and Colon Theatre. When yours is the highest bar in the world, a dizzy 450 metres (1,480 ft) or so up, you have to do something pretty special to compete with the views, especially when the views are of the neon heart of Hong Kong. Last night The Luxury Travel Bible was imbibing blackberry mojitos at the bar at the top of the new Ritz Carlton in HK and we can report that the bar is as breathtaking as the views, no wonder they call it Ozone. A high speed lift sucked us up to the hotel's lobby, already a mind-boggling 103 floors up .Then another elevator shot us into the stratosphere. Stepping out on the 118 floor of this designer fantasy is like starring in Barbarella; shapes twist and turn ,coloured lights dance, builbs drip from the ceiling like clusters of redioactive bubbles. Below us the river twisted like an electric eel surrounded by the twinkle of the city skyscapers. TLTB also loved the coloured lights on the floor that lead to food and the Aladdin's cave of light that leads to the private dining rooms. Where to eat? Italian at Tosca or Chinese at Tin Lung Heen, both have heady views. We predict these will be the hottest tables in town next Chinese new year but can the fireworks even reach this high? HD

Princes William and Harry have taken part in a charity polo match at Coworth Park . In aid of Prince Harry's charity Sentebale the royal brothers braved the rain (while the spectators huddled in the marquees) in a match which saw William beat his younger brother 1-0. During the match Harry played for Sentebale and William represented Tusk Trust, a charity for which he is patron. Following the tournament Harry hosted a charity dinner and auction in aid of Sentebale.

Khao Lak gets cubed

Walk along the beach at Khao Lak, Thailand and you'll come across a series of striking grey cubes on the edge of the sand. These are the buildings of the just-completed Casa de la Flora hotel, the most contemporary-style luxury hotel in the area. Clothing designer Tommy Hilfiger is going to join the ranks of Versace and Armani and create a designer hotel. According to the Wall Street Journal (a venerable publication that can be relied upon) Mr. Hilfiger and a business partner have signed a contract to pay $170 million for the Clock Tower, an office building near Madison Square Park in New York. Will the hotel be as preppie as Mr Hilfiger's clothing? Too early to say as yet but we do know he joins the rush to open up yet more accommodation in the hotel-hungry Big Apple. Mr. Hilfiger's old company, now part of Phillips-Van Heusen Corp which also owns Calvin Klein. isn't involved.

A bizarre piece of news but one guaranteed to make you a whole lot more comfortable on an elephant (You don't think it matters, have you ridden one?) Camp Jabulani in South Africa has created tailor made elephant saddles to take their luxury elephant back safaris to a whole new level. These über-comfortable saddles take two weeks to create and each one is carefully moulded to fit the shape and form of each and every elephant. Adine Roode of Jubulani explains: "We take the exact measurements of each elephant and adjust the saddles accordingly to their growth. The saddles are like carefully created Savile Row tailored suits." Apparently the design of the saddles has taken years to perfect, finding the right type of foam, the correct stitching, fabric that is both durable yet comfortable on the skin to the actual cut and shape. As the elephants grow, new saddles have to be made so the workshop is constantly in production at Camp Jabulani.

Silversea to rename luxury Expedition Ship

Silversea cruises today announced plans to change the name of their luxury expedition ship, the Prince Albert II to Silver Explorer. The changes will take place later this month while the ship is undergoing routine maintenance in Portugal before embarking on its summer program of Northern Europe and Arctic voyages.

Silversea chairman Manfredi Lefebvre said that the name change is "to reinforce the Silversea luxury brand image for the expedition segment".
The ship was originally name in tribute to His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco. Silver Explorer will continue to support of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and host fundraising events aboard for the Foundation's projects.

Does the world need another Champagne bar? Absolutely The Luxury Travel Bible says! Especially when said lounge is a little different.

TLTB was present at the intimate launch this week of the new Perrier -Jouët lounge at London’s Dukes Hotel and we had to stop ourselves staring at all the luxe design features.

Interior designer Shaun Clarkson has considered every aspect of the room's design. When you next visit take time to notice the carpet (and not just because you've had one too many) it is hand- made in India to reflect the flowers on the Perrier - Jouët bottles. The roses reflect the pink of the cushions, the shades of champagne are present in the wallpaper and the whole colour scheme is inspired by the classic Belle Époque bottle.

Oh, and the champagne isn’t half bad either! Sommelier Thomas was on hand to recommend the best bottle ... he also says the Champagne Cocktail '1811' will go down very nicely after dinner.

All those roses make a change from other champagne bars in the area (no leather, dark wood and mood-y lighting here). While all men at the launch felt very at home with a glass in hand the women all agreed that it was a very female-friendly space - great for a girls’ get together.

But boys, if you feel a need for a more manly area head upstairs to Dukes' Martini Bar. Ultimate male James Bond was created here when Ian Flemming wrote some of the original Casino Royale. Yes, that is why Bond drinks his Martini shaken, not stirred. Looking for macho inspiration? Ask if you can sit at Flemming's table. SB

Happy Birthday dear Dorchester

Congratulations to The Dorchester hotel which officially celebrates her 80th birthday today and thanks to the odd bit of cosmetic work (roof suites in 2007, an Alain Ducasse restaurant, a new spa in 2009) the old girl looks pretty good. There is further cosmetic work to come this year, when the hotel renovates a number of suites, again under the design direction of Alexandra Champalimaud. In the tradition of all grand dames contemplating a facelift this is being called 'a refresh'.

We particularly like The Dorchester's history in pictures which time travels us through some of the hotel's finest moment from its early origins. Highlight include: a trumpet playing Louis Armstrong(1956) , Elizabeth Taylor signing her Cleopatra contract in the pink marble bathroom of the famous Harlequin suite (1962), and a visit from The Beatles accepting an award in the ballroom (1964).

The Dorchester has chosen to celebrate its 80th Anniversary throughout 2011 in a worthy collaboration with the international charity Trees for Cities by planting 80 new 'Future Great Trees' in London.

Clarence House announced today that Kate Middleton will spend her last night as a single woman at TLTB favourite The Goring Hotel, Belgravia. The Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, is acknowledging Easter in style throughout the hotel. The Grand Hotel, Stockhom retains Michelin stars

Congratulations are due as for yet another year The Grand Hôtel, Stockholm has retained its Michelin stars. The hotel holds the most Michelin stars under one roof in Sweden and holds three of the eights stars held in Stockholm.

Chef Mathias Dahlgren offers two different restaurants at the hotel. 'Matsalen' (The Dining Room) holds two Michelin stars and 'Matbaren' (The Food Bar) holds one star.

We're not sure whether it is the relaxation rooms with private hot tubs on outside decks or the spectacular views of the snow-capped mountains and the lake but something about Hilton Hotels & Resorts new property in Queenstown New Zealand has taken our fancy. Hilton Queenstown is on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, a champagne cork toss from the millionaire mansions of Kelvin Heights and the award-winning Jacksons Landing golf course. The hotel is part of a 'village' complex which also includes restaurants and bars and the trendy new four star Kawarau Hotel also managed by Hilton. We predict the new offering will give other luxury hotels in the region, including our favourite five star Sofitel Queenstown Hotel & Spa and The Rees , a run for their money in the luxury hotel stakes. Opening on May 17 just in time for the Southern hemisphere ski season the hotel is just under fifteen drive minutes out of town (or a water taxi transfer from the private jetty) and five minutes from the turn off to The Remarkables ski slopes. The Luxury Travel Bible loves the stone fireplaces bordered on each side by floor to ceiling windows with watery views and the large size of even the regular rooms. The Terrace at the Jumeirah Lowndes hotel will re-open on the 15 April offering a peaceful and secluded outdoor space for all day al fresco drinks and dining.

This year The Terrace will also feature a Pommery champagne bar. A menu of summer cocktails will be available including the signature ʻTerrace Breeze cocktail, a blend of mango juice, Tanquery gin, Smirnoff vodka, orange juice and grenadine - sounds perfect for a balmy London evening. A menu offering dishes ranging from Rock Oysters to simple summer salads to indulgent desserts will suit all tastes and dining occasions.

The Terrace has re-opened just in time for a certain wedding that is happening in London at the end of the month (you may have heard about it). To celebrate The Terrace will be decked out with Royal Wedding themed décor and a ʻBest of British alfresco menu will be served. Planting a Legacy

The Dorchester's 80th Anniversary celebrations have kicked off in an environmentally aware fashion. Throughout 2011, in collaboration with international charity Trees for Cities, the hotel will be planting 80 new 'Future Great Trees' in London. Fifteen trees will be planted in Mayfair and St. James's to form 'The Dorchester Anniversary Walk'. A further 65 trees will be planted across London in areas to be identified by Trees for Cities. Perhaps one day these trees will be one day rival the listed plane tree that has marked the entrance to the hotel since it opened its doors in 1931 and that was named as one of the Great Trees of London in 1997.
Over the next few months the hotel will unveil more 80th Anniversary celebrations including on its official birthday (18 April 2011) a commemorative 1930's cocktail called ' Dorchester of London' . Sounds perfect to to toast the hotel with.

Scent of the savannah

Anyone who has been around a lion after its lunch will know the scent of Africa isn't always fragrant. However, in the case of luxury lodge Londolozi's new signature scent and body range, 1926, it can be. Shan Varty, Londolozi's owner and creator of the range says, "In spring the Wild Basil (Ocimum canum) puts out bursts of little fragrant flowers which attract throngs of bees and hundreds of bright bushveld butterflies. How do you know you're not in Kansas anymore? When the new patent leather red shoes worn by Virgin Atlantic's female staff cause as much fuss as the airlines new fleet of A330 Airbuses launched yesterday.

The shoes, packed n yellow "brick' boxes come in two styles named 'Dorothy' with 3 inch heels and and 'Dotty' with a 2-incher for those who get sore feet in-flight and find the higher Dorothy one click too far. The shoes will no doubt add a touch of extra glamour to Virgin's John Rocha designed uniforms. Why are we telling you all this? Because we're shamelessly shallow that's why.

Virgin Atlantic's first Airbus A330 aircraft flew from Manchester to Orlando yesterday signaling the arrival of Virgins new $2.2bn fleet of 10 planes. Its maiden A330 aircraft, named 'Beauty Queen' is Virgin Atlantic's first long range twin engined aircraft. The new plane will use 15% less fuel per seat than the airline's A340-300s, higfhlighting Virgin's commitment to flying a lower carbon fleet. Hotels with a Heart - update

Last year we told you about two hotels that were doing their bit for charity. The Cranley Hotel and The Royal Park Hotel were raising funds for children in the UK and abroad during January. The hotels were charging a flat rate and then guests were asked to pay what they believe the stay is actually worth. Any money received over the £50 (+VAT) rate at The Cranley will be donated to Ndoro Children's Charity. Money raised at The Royal Park will be donated to the NSPCC.

We have now heard back from the hotels' Director of Sales, Lina Stahl, who told TLTB; " The recent charity promotions held at both The Royal Park and The Cranley Hotels during January raised much needed funds for both Ndoro Children's Charities and the NSPCC. The campaign also generated awareness of the two charities along with their aims and goals.
